Here are the top three stories in Franklin today:

  1. Franklin Police Officer Kevin Spry was recognized for his heroic act of saving a woman's life. Spry entered the woman's burning home on Jan. 21, despite heavy smoke and flames, and pulled her to safety, receiving the Franklin Police Department's Life Saving Award from Chief Faulkner and the Fire Chief's Award from Chief Johnson. Mayor Dr. Ken Moore and Ward 2 Alderman Matt Brown presented the awards at the Feb. 28 Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting, as seen in the video link provided, and he was commended for his bravery. 2. A fire that significantly damaged a home in the Founder's Pointe subdivision of Franklin is being investigated by the fire department. The Franklin Fire Department dispatched to the two-story house on Lancelot Lane after heavy smoke and an active fire were reported in the first-floor family room, causing $400,000 in damage. The home was unoccupied and no pets inside, while three firefighters sustained minor injuries during firefighting operations, with two transported to Williamson Medical Center for evaluation and one treated on the scene. 3. Franklin Police and Crime Stoppers are offering a cash reward to identify two suspects who used stolen credit cards to charge over $4,500 fraudulently. The victim's wallet was stolen from a Kroger customer's purse while she was distracted by one suspect asking for help. The thieves acted fast and used the stolen cards to purchase gift cards at a Franklin Sam's Club before the victim even left the store. (Williamson Source)

From my notebook:

  • If you're thinking of hitting Music City for the weekend – note that a new smoke ban is in effect. The new law prohibits smoking in most 21+ venues across Nashville, receiving both applause and backlash from business owners and musicians while aiming to protect the health of employees, musicians, and customers. • At the Board of Mayor and Alderman work session on Feb. 28, an updated lease was presented for the historic Hayes House at Harlinsdale, which is the last step before beginning the restoration process to the beautiful home.
