Here are the top three stories today in Franklin:
- During a recent city meeting, Franklin police officer Kevin Spry was awarded a Lifesaving Award for saving a woman from a house fire on Jan. 21. Franklin Police Chief Deborah Faulkner, Assistant Franklin Fire Chief Greg Baltimore, Franklin Fire Chief Glenn Johnson, and other city officials presented the award to Spry, commending him for his bravery and dedication. The meeting also recognized the winner of the city's snowplow naming contest, with the winning name being "Scoop Dogg." (Williamson Herald)
- The Tennessee House is set to vote on a bill that clarifies a law from two years ago about storm shelters, specifically addressing concerns of liability for churches. The bill aims to encourage more churches to offer their space during severe weather events in order to provide safe shelter for those in need. The lack of storm shelters in Tennessee has been a concern for emergency leaders with nearby Alabama able to offer more shelters due to the state's laws. (News Channel 5 Nashville)
- The Town of Nolensville and Williamson Health celebrated their newest Emergency Medical Services location at the Nolensville Fire and Rescue facility, which began dispatching ambulances in January. Last Tuesday's ceremony included remarks from Williamson Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Andy Russell, Williamson Health EMS Chief Michael Wallace, Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson, and Nolensville Mayor Halie Gallik, who reported that some of the COVID-19 funds have been dedicated to six new ambulances to bring the grand total to 18, while Wallace noted that they responded to over 21,000 calls for service in 2022 and anticipate more than 22,5000 calls this year.
