Here are the top three stories today in Franklin:
- Four new firefighters have graduated from the Franklin Fire Department's 18-week Recruit Academy in a ceremony at the Eastern Flank Battlefield Park event facility. The new firefighters received their badges from family members, following tradition. The in-house training staff for the Franklin Fire Department includes Battalion Chief Ben Marler, Capt. David Kolak, and Lt. Jeremy Martin, with support from other fire department personnel who served as instructors throughout the academy. (williamsonherald.com)
- Metro Nashville Public Schools is planning to install artificial intelligence (AI) technology from Omnilert that can detect guns in schools within seconds. The $1 million contract will provide coverage for all metro school buildings, and includes a monitoring service for human review of alerts flagged through the AI system. The technology was developed by the Department of Defense and is able to detect a weapon quickly, triggering automatic actions that can change the outcome of the situation. (WSMV 4)
- Cards-R-Fun, one of nearby Nashville's oldest collectible card shops, is still in the process of cleaning up almost a month after a fire damaged much of the inventory. Although the shop is not a complete loss, the smoke damage has affected over half of the collectibles inside. The community has shown great support, with over $10,000 being donated through a GoFundMe page and a $15,000 check from Dave & Adam's Card World to help with the shop's recovery.(WKRN News 2)
