  1. Franklin Pride has reported that they are finding it difficult to get a city permit for their annual LGBTQ pride festival this year compared to the last two years. During a City Hall public forum at the end of March, around 30 people asked the city's mayor and city board to deny the permit, claiming that the festival was an attack on families and against the Bible. The city board decided to delay the decision on whether or not to grant the festival a permit until the board could vote to ban "sexually suggestive behavior" and excessive displays of public affection this Tuesday. (AOL)
  2. Franklin Elementary School's Franklin Farmers program is seeing success among students since beginning earlier this school year. The program aims "to enable students to become successful agriculturalists," according to Principal April Carrigan. Students in the program are taught how to plant and grow vegetables, compost food from the school's cafeteria, and learn more about gardening and agriculture. (Williamson Herald)
  3. The Tennessee Highway Safety Office will be partnering with statewide public safety departments for Slow Down Tennessee, an initiative aimed at reducing speeding around the state by raising awareness, from Apr. 14-28. Franklin Police Chief Deborah Faulkner, who is also the president of the Tennessee police chiefs association, said of the initiative, "Our officers encounter far too many victims of tragic and often fatal traffic crashes caused by driving too fast, including drivers who obey the speed limits but disregard road conditions such as bad weather, construction zones, or darkness. If these signs encourage even one person to slow down or drive less aggressively, it could prevent the loss of another life on our roadways." (Courier Anywhere)
