ETSU Health Hosting August COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics

JOHNSON CITY – ETSU Health is expanding its COVID-19 vaccination efforts in August by offering several free clinics at various campus locations throughout the month. In addition to offering the Janssen Johnson & Johnson vaccine at all of its clinic dates, ETSU Health also will offer the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at most of its clinics.

“We are grateful to Ballad Health and First Tennessee Development District’s Take a Shot on Life for partnering with ETSU Health to allow us to offer a choice of vaccines at our upcoming August clinics,” said Donna Noland, manager of ETSU Health’s COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics. “What a great partnership to have in this community – people uniting to vaccinate our region to ensure its overall health and well-being!”

The one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is available to all persons age 18 and older. The Pfizer vaccine is administered as a two-dose series, three weeks apart, and is available to all persons age 12 and older.

No appointments are required. The August clinics are as follows (please note that locations and times vary):

Following a pause of the Janssen Johnson & Johnson vaccine earlier this year and a thorough safety review, the CDC and the FDA determined that the recommended pause of the vaccine in the U.S. should be lifted and use of the vaccine should resume. The FDA has determined that the available data show that the vaccine’s known and potential benefits outweigh its known and potential risks in individuals 18 years of age and older. Faculty, students and staff from ETSU Health colleges, including Quillen College of Medicine, Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Nursing and the College of Public Health, will be administering the J&J vaccine and assisting with patient intake and registration, in addition to those employed by Ballad Health and First Tennessee Development District assigned to the Pfizer vaccine.
