Curb-Painting Scam Hits Smyrna

Smyrna Police said there's no legitimate business offering curb painting.

SMYRNA, TN -- Smyrna Police are warning residents that a con artist is in the area, masquerading as a curb-painting artist.

Numerous people have received flyers (pictured above) saying that they need to have their addresses painted on the curb for public safety reasons, but Smyrna Police said there's no legitimate business offering such a service and that police and fire personnel are able to locate a home without the numbers.

It's a scam that's seen in fits and starts around the country. A big clue the Smyrna operator has tried it elsewhere? The flyer offers, for a little extra, the addition of the Ohio State logo, which isn't exactly the most popular team in Rutherford County.
