La Vergne Man Surrenders, Charged In Deadly Nashville Shooting

A 25-year-old La Vergne man surrendered to police and faces charges in a shooting that killed one Nashville man and injured another.

NASHVILLE, TN — A 25-year-old La Vergne man wanted for murder and attempted murder after an August 12 shooting at the Cumberland View housing development surrendered to Nashville police Tuesday.

Robert Richards, 25, is accused in the death of Jonathan Cheers, 26, and for injuring Treon Bright, 23, on the night of Aug. 12.

A Metro detective driving through North Nashville that morning heard gunshots and then was flagged down and directed to a shooting scene at the Cumberland View public housing complex, where he found two men laying in a breezeway. Cheers was dead on the scene, while Bright was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
