La Vergne-Smyrna is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that La Vergne-Smyrna has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Smyrna is home to the Sam Davis Home, a historic plantation house that was once owned by a Confederate soldier who was hanged for spying during the Civil War. Visitors can take guided tours of the house and grounds, learn about life on a 19th-century plantation and explore the museum's exhibits on Davis and the Civil War.
- Smyrna is the location of the busiest general aviation airport in the state, the Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport. The airport serves as a hub for general aviation and also hosts several aviation events throughout the year, including air shows and fly-ins.
- La Vergne is a city with a rich history — and a surprising number of cemeteries. With a total of 51 separate cemeteries, including some hidden gems like the Buchanan-Ewing Cemetery and the Batey-Rowland Cemetery, it's a unique place where the past rests peacefully alongside the present.
- La Vergne is home to the La Vergne Farmers Market, which operates on Tuesday evenings during the summer months. The market features locally grown produce, handmade crafts and live music, making it a great place to spend a relaxing evening with family and friends.
- Smyrna is home to the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center, a unique facility that offers indoor rock climbing, a ropes course and other outdoor recreation activities. The center also features exhibits on local wildlife and environmental conservation, making it a great place for families to learn and play together.
