Rutherford County Unemployment Drops At Year’s End
Unemployment in Rutherford County fell 1.4 percent in 2017.

NASHVILLE, TN — Rutherford County's unemployment rate dipped to 2.3 percent in December, down 0.3 percent from November, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development. The unemployment rate fell in 77 counties, rose in seven and was unchanged in 11 others and is below 5 percent in 89 of the state's 95 counties.
Rutherford County's rate is tied for second-lowest in the state; neighboring Williamson County has the state's lowest jobless number at 2.2 percent. Of the ten lowest county-level figures statewide, eight were in Middle Tennessee.
In Smyrna, the city-level unemployment rate is estimated at 2.3 percent, down 0.2 percent from November. In neighboring La Vergne, that figure is 2.4 percent, down 0.4 percent from November.

Rutherford County's unemployment rate has dropped 1.4 percent since December 2016.
The state rate, reported last week, is 3.2 percent, up 0.1 percent from November’s adjusted figure.
