Those Aren't Actual La Vergne Census Takers At Your Door

As La Vergne rolls out its special census, it seems some bamboozlers are running a scam.

LA VERGNE, TN -- La Vergne's special census has been underway for three days and already con artists are on the street trying to take advantage.

"It appears that there are people going door-to-door and asking for personal information while giving the appearance that they are census workers for the City of La Vergne. We have just begun our special census and are only taking responses online right now," the city said Wednesday.

The city doesn't plan to send doorknockers out until late January once the online and mailer portions of the count are complete.

"We will announce when this process starts and everyone sent by the city will have a special ID to indicate that they are working for the city. If someone comes to your home and cannot show you a City ID, don't give them any personal information. Remember, the only information we will collect is the first and last names of everyone in your home and your street address - nothing else," the city said.

Because of growth since the 2010 federal census, the city is undertaking its own count in an effort to secure more state shared tax dollars.
