The National Weather Service is forecasting a significant drop in temperatures overnight this week.

Smyrna Utilities would like to offer some cold weather safety tips to prevent freezing pipes:

• Keep your garage doors closed
• Open cabinet doors under your kitchen and bathroom sinks to expose pipes to warmer room temperatures
• Close off crawl spaces and air vents located in the foundation walls
• Allow a small drip/trickle of water to run overnight to prevent pipes from freezing
• Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature both during the day and at night; avoid lowering your thermostat at night
