Shelby County District Attorney: Man Convicted In Apartment Shooting

Feb. 28, 2022 – A jury Friday convicted a 50-year-old man of shooting into a North Memphis apartment where his former girlfriend, her sister-in-law and their three children were inside, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.

Antonio M. Turley was convicted on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. He is scheduled to be sentenced in April by Criminal Court Judge Lee Coffee.

The incident occurred on July 27, 2012, at the Goodwill Village Apartments in the 2500 block of Peres Ave. shortly after Turley’s girlfriend told him she wanted to end their relationship. After shouting threats from outside, Turley fired five times into the apartment window and front door.

His girlfriend’s sister-in-law was shot in the stomach, but survived her injury. The three children, ages 5 to 11, were asleep in a back room.

Turley was a fugitive for five years before he was finally arrested. He has five prior felony convictions, including second-degree murder in 1991.

The trial was handled by Asst. Dist. Attys. Meghan Fowler and Jeff Jones of the District Attorney’s Special Prosecution Unit which seeks maximum sentencing for repeat felony offenders.
