1. Amarillo ISD board hears report on student English language learners (amarillo.com) — Amarillo ISD leaders just reviewed how a growing number of English-learning students are progressing in local classrooms, with 19% of district students classified as emergent bilingual. Officials highlighted strong gains on state language tests, rising graduation and reclassification numbers, and the heavy concentration of refugee and ESL students at Palo Duro and other Amarillo high schools.
   

2. Wonderland lease clears way for new ownership, 75th year ahead (amarillo.com) — Wonderland Amusement Park’s future in Amarillo is more secure after the City Council unanimously approved a new 15‑year lease in Thompson Park, clearing the way for new ownership. The deal with 360 Parks of Amarillo includes possible extensions through 2070, ongoing city land ownership, and planned upgrades and special events for the park’s 75th anniversary season. Longtime owners Paul and Paula Borchardt say they’re confident the park’s legacy will continue for Panhandle families.
   

3. Wild West Wildlife begins training ahead of possible zoo partnership (newschannel10.com) — Amarillo’s zoo could soon be run by Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, with city council set to vote on a contract January 13. The nonprofit is already training alongside Amarillo Zoo staff and interviewing employees, aiming to retain workers, improve animal care, and expand education programs if the partnership is approved.
   

4. Tascosa volleyball players Berryman, Harper sign letters of intent (newschannel10.com) — Two standout Tascosa High School volleyball seniors just took their next steps, with one committing to Amarillo College and the other heading to Oklahoma Christian. Bennet Berryman and Berkley Harper capped off record-setting Lady Rebels careers by signing National Letters of Intent, crediting their Amarillo coaches and support systems for helping them reach the college level.
