• East Texas cowboys win big at National Finals Rodeo (kltv.com) — Athens team roper Lightning Aguilera turned heads at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, teaming with Jacksonville’s Kaden Profili for multiple round wins and a top-six world ranking. The duo posted several blazing sub-4.1-second runs and strong average results. Other East Texas cowboys from Carthage, Hallsville, and Mount Pleasant also brought home big checks and high world standings.
   

• East Texas men sentenced to federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine in Rusk County (thehendersonnews.com) — An Athens man has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after pleading guilty in a Rusk County meth trafficking case, alongside a co-defendant from Henderson. Federal prosecutors say the pair sold meth in 2023, with additional drugs seized during a 2024 arrest. The case was part of a broader federal anti-drug initiative in East Texas.
