Fluor begins work on $671M Highway 6 widening in Texas (equipmentworld.com) — Drivers in Bryan will see major changes as work ramps up to widen 11.5 miles of Highway 6 from SH 21 in Bryan to SH 40 in College Station. The $671 million project will add lanes, rebuild key bridges like William J. Bryan Parkway and Briarcrest, improve interchanges, and create bike and pedestrian paths, with construction continuing through 2030.

2. Bryan Flood Early Warning System (B-FEWS) introduced new public-facing website (star-telegram.com) — Bryan residents now have access to a new online Flood Early Warning System that shows real-time rainfall, stream levels, and road conditions across the city. Unveiled at Tuesday’s city council meeting, the site aims to improve public safety, guide future development, and may eventually integrate with city utilities and mapping apps to give even more timely local alerts.

3. Majority of St. Joseph nurses vote to join National Nurses United Union (kbtx.com) — Nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan have voted to join the National Nurses Organizing Committee / National Nurses United, citing concerns about patient safety, staffing levels, and work-life balance. With the vote complete, nurses will elect unit representatives and begin bargaining with hospital leaders on issues they say affect care for Bryan families and the wider Brazos Valley.

4. Filing closes for 2026 Texas Primaries as Brazos County braces for packed election year (kbtx.com) — Brazos County election officials in Bryan say residents should prepare for an unusually busy 2026 election year, with March primaries, possible May runoffs, and November midterms all on the horizon. Filing has closed for most races except county clerk, where the incumbent’s late withdrawal extended the deadline, and voters are urged to confirm registration and consider mail-in options if eligible.

5. New AI system to answer non-emergency 911 line in Brazos County (thebatt.com) — Bryan residents calling the non-emergency 911 line may soon be greeted by an AI system that’s being tested at the city’s dispatch center to handle overflow calls. Human dispatchers will still monitor every conversation and can instantly take over emergencies, while the AI answers routine questions, routes calls, and creates notes so staff can focus on true 911 situations without adding new personnel.
