Here are the top three stories in Cedar Park-Leander today:

  1. Hundreds of books across many states are being banned, and many of written by authors who are people of color and/or LGBTQ+, and feature characters from marginalized groups. The alarming rate at which books are being challenged and banned in schools and public libraries reportedly has free speech advocates concerned. One advocate, Jonathan Friedman, is the Director of PEN’s Free Expression and Education program, said he noticed most of the escalation of book banning happened in the fall of 2021, citing the large swath of book bans that started in Leander.   2. The Leander softball team, the Lions, won 7 to 0 against Liberty Hill's Lady Panthers on Thursday night. Leander senior SJ Geurin threw 92 pitches and had 14 strikeouts. (Liberty Hill Independent)
