Calling All Artists: Cedar Park Sculpture Garden Seeks Submissions

Since its 2013 launch, garden has fast become an artistic focal point -- and a good venue for artists to sell their work or gain exposure.

CEDAR PARK, TX -- Attention sculptors: The city is now taking submissions of art for possible inclusion in the city's sculpture garden.

The Cedar Park Community Sculpture Garden was formed three years ago, and has become an artistic focal point. Since its creation in October 2013, sculptures on display at the garden have sold both to private collectors and purchased by the city for permanent display.

Residents and visitors alike enjoy this community amenity offered by the city's parks department. The city's Parks, Arts and Community Enrichment (PACE) board of directors seeks to continue the momentum, with a call for entries as possible additions to the garden.

Sculptures accepted for garden inclusion will be installed for a year-long period of public display.

This year’s new collection features 12 sculptures by Texas artists Mosaic Gabrielle with Marc Lane, Laura Sturtz, George Sabra, Cindy Debold, Julian Mercado, Dan Pogue, Siri Dehipitiya, Warren Cullar and Marco Rubino.

The sculptures’ media range from aluminum and bronze, to aluminum, to glass and wood.

Most works of art on display, with the exception of two that are part of the City of Cedar Park’s permanent art collection, are on loan from the artists and are available for sale, officials said. Still, participating artists have agreed to leave their works on display in the Cedar Park Sculpture Garden for a period of at least one year.

PACE is accepting large-scale entries that are free-standing and interactive. Artist of all experience levels will be considered -- professional, amateur and student. Each artist can submit up to three pieces for consideration, and all works must be of original design and execution.

All submitted works must be ready for installation from Oct. 1-7. Chosen art will be based on various crieteria, including originality, aesthetics, suitability as outdoor art, and others.

Artists are asked to submit their entry forms and digital photos of each submitted piece (or digital photos of a scale model), by no later than May 27, 2016. Those unfamiliar with the sculpture garden are encouraged to visit. It's located at 1435 Main Street, Cedar Park, TX 78613. More information and a video on the garden are available here.
