Here are the top stories today in Cedar Park-Leander:
- Former Officer Keco Motton was arrested on Friday after a report of sexual assault was made by an unnamed victim on Thursday. Cedar Park Police Department stated that they take allegations seriously and protect victims of crime. There is an investigation underway. Motton was an officer with Cedar Park Police for 10 years prior to his arrest. Visit KVUE for any updates on this story.
- The Leander Foundation, Leander Parks and Recreation Department, Texas A&M Forest Service, and Keep Leander Beautiful joined together to identify some of the oldest trees in the city. Bella Oak is estimated to be 250 years old, located on Hero Way. Farmer’s Nursery Oakis near the original Leander train station, estimated to be 200 years old. Ha-shu-ka-na was plaqued the oldest tree plaqued at 300 years old, north of Lakewood Park. Check out all the other century old trees at Community Impact Newspaper.
- A 32-year-old suspect, Ashton Carter, was taken into custody after barricading himself in an apartment from around midnight-7 a.m. A woman made an emergency call at 12:25 a.m. about domestic violence. After the victim was evacuated, the suspect fled but returned and refused to cooperate with law enforcement. SWAT and crisis negotiators attempted to resolve the situation. "Gas was eventually deployed inside the residence and the suspect came out of the apartment." More details can be found at KXAN.
