City Of Leander: MLK Day Parade & Street Festival

The MLK Day Parade & Street Festival will be held Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Old Town Leander.

In collaboration with volunteers and local partners, the City of Leander will honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by hosting its first MLK Day Parade & Street Festival themed "Community Unity - Bright & Bold" on Jan. 17, 2022, in Old Town Leander.

King believed in celebrating and promoting the worth of every human being. In his pursuit of equal rights by nonviolent means, King encouraged diverse cultures to live together in a spirit of love, understanding, and service to one another.

The purpose of Leander's inaugural MLK Day Parade & Street Festival is to unify and educate the community, and to encourage participation in observations, ceremonies, and activities that commemorate the federal holiday which honors the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

EVENT SCHEDULE

The MLK Day Parade & Street Festival will be held Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Old Town Leander. This event is free and open to the public. The event's theme is "Community Unity - Bright & Bold."

  • 10 a.m. - Community Parade Begins
  • 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Festival, Diversity Marketplace, and Stage Performances

GET INVOLVED

Leander's very first MLK Day Parade and Street Festival will be held in Old Town Leander on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year's theme is "Community Unity Bright & Bold."

Individuals and organizations that would like to be a part of this inaugural event have many opportunities ranging from participation in the parade, having a vendor booth at the street festival, volunteering as event staff, or sponsoring! All members of the community are encouraged to participate.

COMMUNITY PARADE - 10 a.m.

Register to participate in the MLK parade on Jan. 17, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Registration forms must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Jan. 10, along with a signed copy of the Parade Rules and Regulations.

FESTIVAL & DIVERSITY MARKETPLACE - 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The MLK Parade & Street Festival Planning Committee cordially invites you to participate as a vendor in the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. parade and festival.

Vendors should strive to reflect the theme of the event 'Community Unity: Bright and Bold' in their booth spaces. The event introduces attendees to the community's diverse food and retail vendors and represents cultural experiences.

Vendor applications are due before Jan. 12, 2022, at 5 p.m. Click here to view the vendor form.

STAGE PERFORMANCES - 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Throughout the MLK Day Street Festival, performers from the surrounding area show off their talents at the main stage in Old Town Leander. Performance groups will range from dancers, movement performers, musicians, bands, youth dancers, choirs, and spoken word artists. All of which represent Leander and the surrounding community's diverse cultural experiences. For more information, click here.
