Here are the top three stories today in Cedar Park-Leander:

  1. During the Jun. 9 meeting, the Cedar Park City Council approved the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority (BCRUA) water treatment plant and the interconnection with the city of Round Rock as alternative water sources in the city’s Drought Contingency and Water Emergency Plan. Utility program manager Nanette McCartan said, "If we were to have any type of issue at our primary plant (the Lower Colorado River Authority, or LCRA), we could pull from BCRUA on an emergency basis" or the interconnection with the city of Round Rock. 2. On Jun. 9, Governor Greg Abbott directed Mike Morath, the Texas Education Agency Commissioner, to create a Chief of School Safety and Security position within the agency to address gun violence after the recent school shootings. Tom Henry, a Leander Independent school district parent, agrees with the decision and thinks that is "the appropriate agency to be overseeing all of this. They are the folks who are intimately familiar with what goes on the day to day basis in our school system." (KEYE TV CBS Austin)
