Here are the top three stories today in Cedar Park-Leander:

  1. Yesterday, Williamson County commissioners unanimously approved an agreement for a Flock camera pilot program, which will install 25 license-plate reading cameras across the county to help fight and solve crimes. After the free 12-month pilot program, if the county decides to continue in the program, it will be $2,500 per camera cost plus installation fees, amounting to about $68,000. Sheriff Mike Gleason said the cameras capture rear license plates and not faces or profiles and it "basically just provides us leads that we otherwise would not have to further the investigation." As of May 3, the start date for the trial has not been announced. (KXAN)
  2. Ten high school girls from Vandegrift High School in Leander belong to the Vandegrift High School Banned Book Club. Ella Scott, the 16-year-old co-founder and co-president, started the 14th meeting about I.W. Gregorio’s "None of the Above," one of the LISD banned books. The book club members are part of a movement of students across the country who are fighting for the right to read and learn. (The Washington Post)
