Here are the top three stories today in Cedar Park-Leander:
- The Cedar Park Fire Department celebrated its 50th anniversary yesterday, May 5. According to the CPFD website, the fire department pre-dates the incorporation of the City of Cedar Park and was started in 1972 by "a small but determined group of volunteers." Assistant Chief Adam Story said, "We’ve been named one of the safest cities to live in, and I agree with that, one hundred percent. We have, I think, not only one of the best fire departments in the country; we have a fantastic Police Department and just City services as a whole." (FOX 7 Austin)
- The DOJ has reported that Raymond E. Robinson, a 70-year-old pastor from Leander, was sentenced to 42 months in prison on Mar. 18, 2022, for conspiring to defraud $3.5 million from four churches and a real estate development company. In addition to the prison time, Robinson was ordered to pay a forfeiture of $17,750 and restitution of $3,226, 950 and sentenced to three years of supervised release. (Department of Justice)
- Bobby Amidon from Leander won third place and $15,000 at the Sam Rayburn Big Bass Splash hosted by Sealy Outdoors. Amidon caught a 9.65-pound bass during the Apr. 22 to 24 derby. (Beaumont Enterprise)
