Here are the top three stories in Cedar Park-Leander today:

  1. Cedar Park and Leander residents can buy emergency preparation supplies tax-free during the Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday from Apr. 23 to Apr. 25. Emergency supplies can help during events such as tornadoes, fires, or freezing temperatures. There is no limit on the number of qualifying items a person can purchase. An exemption certificate is not needed to claim the exemption. View the link for a full list of qualifying items. (Comptroller Texas Gov)
  2. Ice rink operator Chaparral Ice, who operated the rink and fields at Cedar Park athletic facility The Crossover, is at odds with the facility's landlords. Chaparral Ice was reportedly locked out of the facility and had its lease terminated by landlords in February. Chaparral Ice is accusing the facility’s landlord of not letting them get their property that is "worth millions of dollars" off the grounds. The management at The Crossover said Chaparral Ice owed the landlord nearly $800,000 before the lease was terminated and "accommodated four different lease amendments" to try to help Chaparral stay in the building. Both parties are now in bankruptcy court to present their proposals. (KXAN)
  3. Sharon Richardson, a fifth-generation New Orleans native, moved to Cedar Park after Hurricane Katrina and brought her knowledge of Louisiana cooking to Texas. She started a business making homemade pralines and now makes all sorts of Creole and Cajun fare. Her business, Christen’s Gourmet Pralines, is named after her daughter.
