Here are the top three stories in Cedar Park-Leander today:

  1. On Saturday at Elizabeth Milburn Park, Leander ISD parents and staff gathered for the "Spring into FReadom" event. Spring into FReadom is a group that believes all books should be readily accessible to students. The event was to support students and their ability to choose what books they want to read. The district has removed 11 books from the curriculum so far. Ella Scott, a Vandergrift High School student who co-founded the Banned Book Club, said, "When you take away these books, you take away these amazing stories that we can all learn from." (KVUE)
  2. Freshman wide receiver Jack Hestera used a year-long detour at Cedar Park High School to make his dream come true. Hestera was living in Colorado when the COVID-19 pandemic struck and the Colorado high school football team announced the delay of the 2020 season. He moved to Cedar Park so he could keep playing football and helped lead the Cedar Park High School team to a 13-to-1 record with a school-record 16 touchdowns. Hestera said, "[his] team at Cedar Park welcomed [him] in with open arms and just helped [him]." He is now a Colorado University football team walk-on, his dream to become a CU "Buff" has come true. (Colorado Daily)
  3. At the 2022 Golf UIL Region IV Tournament, Leander won fourth place and Cedar Park won sixth place in Class 5A teams (36 holes). In Class 5A individuals (36 holes), E. Tran from Leander won fourth place and B. Lemaire from Cedar Park tied for seventh place. (Express News)
