Harmony Public Schools and UT Austin’s "The Project" Unite

Student and faculty volunteers work together on a beautification project for the campuses

Harmony School of Excellence and Harmony School of Innovation were the proud recipients of brand-new picnic tables as part of UT Austin's esteemed volunteer program, The Project. As UT Austin's largest day of university-wide community service, The Project brought together UT students, faculty, and staff with members of the Harmony community to enhance the campuses through hands-on volunteer work and a shared dedication to service.

UT volunteers and Harmony community members united on November 2 to build, stain, and install school picnic tables, providing students with inviting new spaces for outdoor activities and study. Volunteers also painted a "Kindness Matters" mural at Harmony School of Innovation, promoting a positive and welcoming environment on campus.

In a fitting coincidence, The Project celebrated its 25th anniversary this year as Harmony Public Schools also enters its own 25-year milestone. In recognition of this shared achievement, Harmony campuses identified beautification projects that UT Austin volunteers will help complete, with all materials and labor provided by UT Austin at no cost to the schools.

This year, for the first time, The Project opened participation to the local communities it serves, allowing Harmony families and students to volunteer alongside UT students. The collaboration provided Harmony families with the unique opportunity to work directly with UT Austin, building connections while enhancing their school environments.

The Project's annual service day mobilizes UT Austin volunteers to work in Austin neighborhoods, addressing critical needs such as education, sustainability, and community engagement. Previous Project activities at Harmony Science Academy-Austin included painting benches, creating flower beds, and cleaning outdoor areas. Harmony Public Schools is grateful to UT Austin and The Project for their commitment to fostering positive change through service, one campus at a time.
