Here are the top stories in Cedar Park-Leander today:

  1. Cedar Park has started repairs to Lakeline Boulevard, which is estimated to last all summer long. The repairs are to cure damages that happened during the 2021 freeze along with regular wear and tear. Southbound lanes will be worked on, followed by the northbound lanes. “We’re putting 16 inches depth of pavement, asphalt base and subgrade to make it a much, much more high quality road,” Jenny Huerta, spokesperson for the City of Cedar Park said." (KXAN)
  2. Akira Ross' partner and father believe "she was killed by stranger in Cedar Park because she was gay." Ross' father, Anthony Hill heard from witnesses that the alleged shooter yelled gay slurs at Ross before shooting her. Cedar Park Police couldn't confirm that this was a hate crime. Bradley Stanford has been charged with first-degree murder. (Austin American-Statesman)
  3. Speeding has been an ongoing safety issue in all Leander school zones. There have thankfully not been any accidents involving children or parents however, pedestrians have been struck. "Leander city council passed an ordinance that requires a radar display sign to be installed in any new school zones within the city limits." The radar display will be able to detect speeds and remind drivers to slow down in school zones. (KXAN.com)
