Leander Boil Water Notice Canceled Following Line Break
Residents of the Travisso subdivision no longer need to boil their water before consumption after the water was found to be bacteria-free.
LEANDER, TX — A previously issued boil water notice was canceled Thursday evening after the water quality was deemed safe after a line break, Leander officials said.
The cancellation applies to residents of the Travisso subdivision where a contractor earlier had inadvertently ruptured a water line. The breach gave rise to potential contamination of harmful bacteria — namely E. coli that is known to make people ill — that made it necessary residents to boil water before usage in cooking or direct ingestion.
"It is no longer necessary to boil your water," officials wrote three days after the line rupture.

Despite the clean bill of health, officials said in an advisory that city crews will be flushing water lines in the area over the next several days to remove potential air and debris buildup. As a result, officials continued, customers may experience some instances of water flow disruption until all lines can be cleared.

City officials outlined a pair of frequently asked questions:
Is our water contaminated?
No. Results from the bacteriological samples submitted for testing on Jan. 27 showed no evidence of total coliform or E. coli bacteria contamination in the city's public water system.
What do we do now?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends water customers take a few additional steps once a boil water notice is canceled:
- Flush pipes and faucets. Run cold water faucets continuously for at least five minutes.
- Flush water coolers. Run coolers with direct water connections for five minutes.
- Flush home automatic ice makers. Make three batches of ice cubes and discard all three batches.
- Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.
- Drain and refill hot water heaters set below 113°F.
- (optional) Change all point-of-entry and point-of-use water filters, including those associated with equipment that uses water.
