Leander ISD Seeking More Than $772M In Bond Proposals In Election

Early voting started Monday as the district is seeking to address growth and making upgrades through three different ballot proposals.

LEANDER, TX — Local voters will decide they will support three propositions for the Leander Intermediate School District totaling more than $772 million in the upcoming November election, school officials recently announced.

The district said that it worked with a committee of more than 150 community volunteers to identify and prioritize the district’s needs over the next three years. The proposed projects will impact every student in the district and can be financed without a tax rate increase. The projects will be paid for by layering in debt payments using tax payments from rising property values, officials said.

The request for the funding comes as district officials are expecting more than 13,000 students to enroll in the district over the next 10 years, communityimpact.com reported. While district officials are expecting to have to address that growth in coming years, school officials are also requesting support for the three ballot proposals to take care of existing district buildings and property, officials said.

Early voting began Monday and runs through Nov. 2 ahead of the Nov. 3 general election. School officials said on the district’s website that the proposition measures will allow the district to keep up with growth taking place at Leander schools, allows district officials to take care of existing schools and impact every student and will provide funding for the replacement of equipment and technology.

Ballot Proposition A includes $727.2 million worth of new construction, renovation and equipment replacement projects. Proposition B includes $33.3 million to replace existing technology devices – including student and staff laptop computers – over the next three years. Proposition C includes $11.7 million in renovation for lighting and sound upgrades for the district’s high school and district performing arts center, officials said.
