Here are the top stories today in Cedar Park-Leander:
- The Leander community shows support to 11-year-old Avery Winkelman. The 6th grader recently went under surgery to remove five of her organs due to a chronic health condition that caused her unbearable pain. It will be a few months before Winkelman's family knows if the surgery will help Avery in the long run. Avery's school, neighborhood, and organization COTA (Children's Organ Transplant Association) have played a key role in supporting Avery in her journey. (KEYE TV CBS Austin)
- Leander's first St. David's hospital will break ground at the end of 2023. IT is expected to be completed in 2025. There will be 34 beds, inpatient and outpatient surgeries, robotic services, maternity and newborn services, and more. Residents are excited for this addition to the community, especially after having to travel long commutes just to get to the closest hospitals in Georgetown, Cedar Park, or Austin. There is still concern regarding whether this hospital will be able to handle the capacity of how fast Leander is being populated. (Community Impact Newspaper)
