Here are the top three stories in Cedar Park-Leander today:
- On Sunday, Jun. 26, Gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke hosted a pro-choice rally in Pan American Neighborhood Park in East Austin. Cedar Park resident Alexis Marek spoke at the rally, reiterating that the pro-choice movement is not all young women wanting to live "free" lives and get "abortions on-demand," but women who are aware that "there are things that can go wrong in even the most wanted pregnancy that are life-threatening." Friday’s Supreme Court ruling triggered a state law that essentially bans all abortions unless a woman’s life is at risk. It was signed by Governor Abbott and will go into effect in 30 days. - Yesterday, Jun. 27, Governor Greg Abbott announced the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) winners of the 2022 Barbara Jordan Media Award. Taylor Chronert, a high school student at Leander ISD's Vandegrift High School, won the High School Student Print Category for "Forward March: Student with a Disability Adapts to Excel in Band." The award recognizes "the respectful, accurate portrayal of people with disabilities by media professionals and students." (Office of the Texas Governor)
