Here are the top stories in Cedar Park-Leander today:
- Leander Police Department Officer John Carnley was cleared by a Travis County grand jury for a fatal shooting last year. Carnley fired several shots at 34-year-old Michael Crater after he “failed to comply with multiple commands from officers before pointing a handgun in the direction of officers.” A Georgetown officer was also involved at that time. After officers attempted life-saving measures, Crater died. Catch all of the details at KXAN.
- A crossing guard for Leander ISD was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being hit by a trailer. A driver of a Ford truck with a trailer hitched to it turned when the crossing guard stepped into the crosswalk to begin stopping traffic. The truck driver stopped and helped in the investigation. More details are at KXAN.
- A future project for RM 620 will expand into Cedar Park. The almost-9.8 miles stretch of new construction will displace the small businesses on it now. Those small-business owners hope they're treated fairly during the process. The primary reason for road expansion is the local rapid growth. "This $38 million project will add frontage roads, elevated bypass lanes at specific intersections, turnarounds, additional right-turn lanes, and a shared-use bicycle and pedestrian path."
