Here are the top three stories today in Cedar Park-Leander:

  1. The housing market and home values in Central Texas have increased dramatically, creating a huge increase in tax bills for new homeowners. The cap, a 10 percent limit on the amount a residence’s appraised value can increase, limits the tax bill’s growth. But the cap does not go into effect with new homeowners until the next tax year. Lea Brown purchased her home in Leander last June — its appraisal value is now $247,000 higher than last year. Due to the purchase date, she is not eligible for a cap on how high her property tax bill climbs this year. (KXAN)
  2. The Leander High School softball team won four to three against Georgetown High School on Tuesday night. Leander now has a 12-game winning streak and a two-game lead over Georgetown in the District 25-5A race. (Austin American-Statesman)
