Virtual Event Identifies Ways To Advance Racial Equity

The virtual discussion focuses on tackling racism through improved communication and ways to become an ally to the Black community.

CEDAR PARK, TX — Recently, communities across the country have come together to protest and spotlight issues related to racial injustice and racism in our country. Demonstrations seen across cities in the US give way to deeper discussions on race and racial disparities, and a virtual event titled, "The Language of Racism: Disrupting Passive Aggressive Communication Norms" will offer insight by experts on ways to advance racial equity. The virtual discussion takes place Thursday, June 11 from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. and looks at the spoken and unspoken norms of communication as ways to promote racial equity in yourself and the workplace.

The discussion will explore how to understand and manage the following passive aggressive communication characteristics:

  • Tone policing
  • Vagueness
  • Deflecting
  • Blaming the messenger and avoiding the message,
  • Civility politics
  • Conflict aversion and more

Presenters Fleur Larsen and Jodi-Ann Burey, originally from Seattle and New York City respectively, will draw from their own lived experiences and invite you all to do the same. The conversation will help improve conversations as a straightforward way to tackle racism. This session will cover the following:
