Students Earn GED At LSC-Montgomery

CONROE, TX — Lone Star College-Montgomery honored 94 students achieving a challenging educational milestone, and now they will turn to the next chapter in their lives.

Twenty-nine General Equivalency Diploma earners walked across the stage at the college’s annual recognition ceremony Wednesday.

Cassia Le Rodriguez, student speaker for the Class of 2018 GED Celebration, congratulated and thanked each of her fellow classmates and encouraged everyone to continue pursuing their dreams.

“Many of my classmates became overwhelmed by the amount of study required,” said Cassia. “After I told them about my experience and how I got through it, I began to share and encourage others. If I can do it, you can do it too. Just focus and don’t get frustrated.”

Cassia, along with Nathan Blake Haley, received a $500 scholarship to pursue their education with Lone Star College. Nathan earned the highest score on the exam, among those in attendance.

Keynote speaker Linda Good, J.D., shook each graduate’s hand during the diploma procession, congratulated students for achieving a major milestone in their life, and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. Good serves on the Lone Star College Board of Trustees.

The GED test is designed to measure the skills and knowledge equivalent to a high school course of study. It has served as a bridge to education and employment opportunities for an estimated 19 million people since 1942.

Today, approximately one in seven high school diplomas issued in the United States each year is a GED certificate. The test consists of four content areas and takes approximately seven and a half hours to complete.

LSC-Montgomery offers the GED review course and the GED test — both in English and Spanish at LSC-Conroe Center. Students must be 18 years of age or have parent or guardian permission to take the test.
