LSC's Physical Therapist Assistant Program Celebrates 20 Years

MONTGOMERY, TX -- If you or someone you love has been recovering from an accident or surgery with physical therapy, chances are a Lone Star College-Montgomery student has treated them.

Graduates from the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at LSC-Montgomery represent 75 percent of the Physical Therapist Assistants in our area.

This program is celebrating its 20th anniversary and staff are inviting the community to join in and make a difference in patient care in our area.

In honor of the anniversary and the commitment of dedicated LSC-Montgomery faculty, students, advisory board members, and alumni, the program will be honoring its longest serving faculty member Dr. Nanette Meyer, Director of Clinical Education with an endowed scholarship in her name.

Dr. Meyer has been an instructor, mentor and friend to students for 18 years.

“Dr. Meyer is the heart of our program,” said Renee Pruitt Physical Therapist Assistant program director. “She has ledour students to do what they do best, take care of our patients. The Dr. Nanette Meyer Physical Therapist AssistantEndowed Scholarship Fund will ensure our students continue to her legacy.”

Meyer said she was surprised and honored when she heard about the scholarship fund.

"I am a first generation college student. I know my parents sacrificed a lot so I could get my degree," she said. "They valued education and that appreciation was instilled in me, so I am happy to help others achieve their educational goals any way I can. I am so proud of our current students and our graduates; I love seeing them practicing their art and improving the lives of everyone they encounter."

Once funded, this endowment will provide an annual $1,000 scholarship for each $20,000 raised. Please consider a gift to this scholarship fund. All donations are tax deductible.

Donate online at lonestar.edu/giving/donate. Lone Star College-Montgomery's five-semester Physical Therapist Assistant Program is the only one of its kind in the north Houston area. It is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. Graduates receive an associate of applied science degree and are eligible to take the national licensure examination.

The Physical Therapist Assistant Program includes classroom, lab, clinical instruction, and four in-depth clinical rotations. These rotations allow students to work with a physical therapist in area hospitals, clinics and rehab centers. The graduation and job placement rates of the program participants are high and Physical Therapist Assistant salaries continue to grow.
