Porter High School Catches Fire Weeks Before School Starts

A fire inside Porter High School damaged the school cosmetology classroom Thursday night.

PORTER, TX – A fire that erupted inside Porter High School Thursday night damaged at least one classroom, and caused the cancelation of several events planned for Friday and next week. Firefighters were alerted shortly before midnight Thursday by a fire alarm inside the school.

Firefighters said the sprinkler system inside the school activated and kept the flames from spreading outside of the cosmetology classroom where the fire began.

Heavy smoke lingered after the fire was extinguished, so firefighters brought out a massive fan mounted on a trailer to clear the smoke. While the cause of the fire is under investigation, activities planned at the campus are canceled.
