Here are the top three stories today in Corpus Christi:
- Reliant's "Beat the Heat" Program, in collaboration with Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation, is offering a curbside distribution of 250 free cooling kits to Corpus Christi residents at Lindale Senior Center on Saturday, Jun. 24. The kits aim to help people stay cool and have fun during the hot summer and include a box floor fan, fruit cup, and indoor activity. Each person is limited to one box fan, and a maximum of two fans per vehicle, and recipients must be present to receive the kits. You can learn more here. - Starting after Jul. 4, those visiting nearby Rockport Beach will have the opportunity to enjoy train rides as a new attraction. The service, which was previously available at the Rockport Railroad Depot, will now be expanded to the beach area, providing visitors with a unique way to explore and enjoy the surroundings. The train rides will be free of charge, offering families and children another fun activity to experience while visiting Rockport Beach. (KIII 3)
- The ongoing high temperatures in South Texas are not only affecting people, farmers, and animals but also local businesses. Kiko's Restaurant in Corpus Christi has taken measures to combat the heat by placing multiple fans throughout the establishment. The owner, Marcus Barrera, has also made efforts to lower the temperature inside the restaurant by using a portable air conditioning vent and adding cool water and ice. However, supply chain delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic have affected the arrival of a new cooling system. (KRIS 6)
