Here are the top three stories in Corpus Christi today:
- The City of Corpus Christi broke a record this year for the most people to stay in the city over Memorial Day weekend. More than 29,000 rooms were booked during the three-day holiday weekend, marking a three percent increase over 2022. Leaders in the local tourism industry say they expect the city to experience a record-breaking Fourth of July as well. (KIIITV)
- A young girl drowned Monday at the Aransas Pass Aquatics Center down the road in what officials are calling “a freak and tragic accident.” The incident occurred around 2:26 p.m. on Jun. 12 when the child went underwater and disappeared. Despite an immediate response from lifeguards, the child did not survive. (KIIITV)
- City Manager Peter Zanoni says Corpus Christi residents should not expect current water restrictions to end any time soon. The city’s Stage 1 drought restrictions will not end until the combined capacity of Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon surpasses 50 percent. Until then, residents will only be permitted to water their lawns with sprinklers or an irrigation system once weekly on trash pickup day. (Caller Times)
