Here are the top three stories today in Corpus Christi:

  1. The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department has partnered with Reliant for their annual “Beat the Heat” Cooling Kit Distributions at the Lindale Senior Center. On Jun. 24 and Jul. 15, residents of all ages can pickup a free cooling kit, which includes a box floor fan, an indoor activity, and a fruit cup. Call 361-826-3460 or visit www.ccparkandrec.com for more information. (City of Corpus Christi)
  2. The City of Corpus Christi said residents might notice a pickup delay for large brush and bulky items. According to Corpus Christi Solid Waste Services, the delay is caused by Areas 1-A and 1-B having a larger-than-normal amount of bulky waste. Joe Kramer, Flour Bluff Citizen's Council president, said illegal dumping has been a problem in those areas and could be a factor in the high volume of waste. Due to the delay, on Jun. 21, the city was still collecting from Area 2 even though the schedule called for Area 3-A to set out their bulky waste. Area 3-A collections are set to begin on Jun. 26. 3. Raelynn Guerrero, a Corpus Christi teen, hopes to spread joy in the community with a new TikTok trend. Raelynn has created a rock snake, a line of painted rocks, on the corner of Grand Junction Drive and Wapentate Drive. Community members can paint their own rock and add it to the snake, which Raelynn named Slimy in honor of her childhood pet snake. She hopes Slimy will grow half a mile with the community's help and her family has created an Instagram account to track Slimy's journey, @slimy_the_rocksnake. (KRIS 6 News Corpus Christi)
