  1. The Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD) is extending its free after school program for the 2023-2024 school year. For the program's second year, it will be offered at two more campuses for a total of 19 campuses. The program uses federal funds to provide the needed care and gives students snacks, academic support in reading and math, and activities like arts and crafts, dance teams, running and gardening clubs. 2. On Tuesday, Jun. 21, Hurricane Alley Waterpark in Corpus Christi posted a response on social media to the recent rumor of a head lice outbreak and certain "misconceptions." Miranda Davis, owner of The Lice Angels, posted on her social media that over 50 children got lice from the pools at Hurricane Alley and that lice can live in pools. The waterpark posted a response that said, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, lice do not possess the ability to swim and stay firmly attached to human hair when submerged underwater. The post continued that sharing personal items like towels and hats that touch the hair could spread lice, and the waterpark is committed to "maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for everyone." 3. As part of the Mayor's Fourth of July Big Bang Celebration, Corpus Christi will celebrate Independence Day with days of festivities beginning on Saturday, Jul. 1. Mayor Paulette Guajardo said this year there will be more "family fun activities" in the downtown area and at Water's Edge Park. Events include the Coastal Comida Fest on Jul. 1, the annual Fajita Cook-Off on Jul. 2, another food truck festival and kid zone at Water's Edge Park on Jul. 4, The Big Bang Celebration on Jul. 4, and more.
