  1. La Retama Library has been very accommodating when it comes to providing a place with air-conditioning for the community during this dangerously hot summer. Assistant Dianna Jobe stated that the goal is to provide for individuals and families who may not have adequate resources to stay cool in the heat. On Sunday, Jun. 18, there were at least 70 people at the library, and the location does not want to stop there. Some other locations that the community is welcome to visit for a cool-off during the summer are Northwest Senior Center, Ben F. McDonald Public Library, Lindale Senior Center, Ethel Eyerly Senior Center, and Garden Senior Center. (KIIITV.com)
  2. On Monday, Jun. 20, the Corpus Christi ISD board of trustees voted unanimously to have a new budget that projects revenues to be less than expenses. Teachers, nurses, and librarians will get a $250 raise in their starting salary, which will end up being a yearly pay of $52,250. Additionally, there will be a $600 increase in pay for those with up to five years of experience and a $900 raise for those with six years or more of experience. Positions such as counselors and administrators will also see a raise of 1.0 percent to 1.5 percent to their median salary. (Caller Times)
  3. State officials down the road in Sinton have now identified the man that was killed on Sunday night (Jun. 18) due to a car crash as 58-year-old Martin Enrique Pena. Pena was reportedly hit by a Dodge Durango in his Ford Fusion when Pena did not use the “right of way at a stop sign” when going toward the crossover on County Road 1196 and U.S. 77. He was declared dead at the scene after 10:15 p.m. when the accident occurred, but there were no other individuals with injuries from the wreck. (Caller Times)
