Here are the top three stories today in Corpus Christi:

  1. Dinnertime at the Calallen Chili's restaurant on US 77 was interrupted on Sunday when a fire broke out in the kitchen. Diners and staff evacuated to the parking lot while crews worked to contain the blaze, which they did within 15 minutes of arriving. The Fire Marshall's investigation determined that a disconnected gas line was struck by a piece of kitchen equipment, igniting the fire. (KRIS 6 News Corpus Christi)
  2. Corpus Christi native Joseph "Jowee B" Brock will return to Food Network's 'Guy's Grocery Games' for a second time on Wednesday during a "Redemption" episode. Brock was the runner-up during his first appearance, where his "Thai-Tex-Mex" approach received rave reviews. Brock said this time was different, but was unable to give too many details. This will actually be his third appearance on a Food Network program, having placed third on "Ultimate Summer Cook-Off." (Caller Times)
  3. Corpus Christi City Council will vote today (May 16) on whether or not to send the Trestle Trail project proposal to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for consideration of a $10 million grant. The plan is to connect Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and Flour Bluff by repurposing the infrastructure of an old train track. "This particular bridge will include elements that would include fishing, bird watching, or an area where you can just relax and sit," said Corpus Christi's Director of City Planning, Daniel McGinn.
