Here are the top three stories today in Corpus Christi:
- Two people have died in a car crash that occurred early Wednesday morning near the intersection of Brawner Parkway and Carroll Lane. The incident involved a speeding black sedan that had been involved in a hit-and-run prior to the crash. The driver and passenger of the sedan were killed, while another passenger in the backseat sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. The crash caused power outages in the area, affecting residents and temporarily disrupting the power supply to Mary Helen Berlanga Elementary School in Corpus Christi. (KRIS 6 News)
- The City of Corpus Christi is undergoing a restructuring of its Neighborhood Services Department, impacting divisions such as Code Enforcement, Grant Monitoring, Housing and Homelessness, and Animal Care Services. As part of this restructuring, Code Enforcement will be integrated into the Development Services Department, while Grant Monitoring, Housing, and Homelessness will join the Planning and Community Development Department. Additionally, Animal Care Services will become an independent City Department, with plans to hire a Director for the department soon. The objective of this restructuring is to improve overall performance, responsiveness, and effectiveness, and the City has made the new organizational chart available on its website for reference. - During a press conference, Pablo Vegas, the President and CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), stated that they anticipate issuing fewer conservation notices this summer. To keep residents informed, ERCOT has introduced the Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS), which will provide updates on grid conditions. The public can access information through social media, email, and the TXANS website, which will also include the ERCOT Weather Watch and notifications regarding grid condition levels and any necessary public actions.
