Here are the top three stories in Corpus Christi today:

  1. Local news station KRIS 6 along with community partners has launched the "Flag for a Flag" program in South Texas to address the wear and tear that American flags experience due to the region's wind and weather conditions. Through this program, individuals can exchange their faded, worn, and tattered 3'x5' or larger American flags for a new one, free of charge. The old flags will be properly retired, and participants can proudly display their new flags on National Flag Day, Jun. 14. (KRIS 6)
  2. Andres Garza, a 43-year-old worker from Corpus Christi, has been identified as the victim of a tragic auto-pedestrian accident in Edinburg. The incident occurred on Sunday night as Garza was setting up construction signs for the Texas Department of Transportation on the southbound lanes of FM 490 and North Interstate Highway I-69C. While working, Garza was struck by a driver towing a vehicle who had veered onto the median. Garza was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Edinburg police are currently investigating the accident. (KRGV)
  3. To combat the extreme heat with temperatures reaching 114 degrees, Corpus Christi is offering several free cooling options to residents. These include access to the city's pools, splash pads, and the Bayfront Park Fountain. However, it is important to note that children eight years old or younger must be accompanied by someone 16 years old or older. Specific pool locations and timings have been provided for residents to take advantage of these cooling facilities. (KIII News 3)
