Here are the top three stories in Corpus Christi today:

  1. Former Port of Corpus Christi CEO Sean Strawbridge will receive a lump sum of $1.6 million upon his departure, representing what he would have earned for the remaining 31 months of his contract. The separation agreement was disclosed after weeks of non-disclosure by the port's leadership, who claimed it was to award Strawbridge for his performance. However, one commissioner opposed the terms, deeming them overly favorable to the departing CEO, who had become one of the highest-paid seaport executives in the country during his eight-year tenure. 2. The nearby City of Port Aransas has introduced its first-ever junior lifeguard program aimed at promoting beach safety for teenagers. The program provides comprehensive training and knowledge in open water lifeguarding, offering step-by-step guidance. The initiative also aims to address the national lifeguard shortage and encourage younger teens to consider becoming lifeguards in the future, with the program serving as a valuable first step toward that goal. 3. The 2023 Atlantic hurricane season officially began on Jun. 1 with no pre-season storms. However, a cluster of thunderstorms in the Gulf of Mexico is being closely monitored by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) for potential development. The disturbance, known as "Invest 91-L," has a high probability of becoming a tropical depression, potential tropical cyclone, or even Tropical Storm Arlene, depending on further investigation by Hurricane Hunter aircraft.
