Here are the top three stories today in Corpus Christi:
- On Jun. 19 the Corpus Christi ISD board of trustees unanimously adopted a budget for the 2023-24 school year. Notably, the budget has a deficit of almost $26 million due to revenues that are projected to be less than expenses. The budget includes a $250 starting salary increase for teachers, nurses, and librarians, in addition to step increases of $600 for those with zero to five years of experience, and $900 for those with six or more years of experience. - The Fourth of July holiday is approaching in just a couple of weeks, and Corpus Christi residents know what that means — the Mayor's 46th annual Big Bang Fourth of July Firework Show is on the horizon. This year, the free event will take place at 9:30 p.m. along the city's Bayfront, with a variety of family-friendly activities also available at The Water's Edge Park. (KRIS 6 News Corpus Christi)
- Nearby South Padre Island's Margaritaville Beach Resort is officially open and is the first of its kind to open on a Texas beachfront. The new resort offers 200 all-ocean view rooms, 50 beachfront condos, a swim-up bar and grill, an indoor bar and grill, and a coffee shop. You can learn more about the new resort here.
