Here are the top three stories today in Corpus Christi:

  1. People will now encounter a powerful message as they ascend the Harbor Bridge: "We can help you cross this bridge." Corpus Christi Police Department Sr. Ofc. Shawn Barnes, the department’s crisis coordinator, said he received inspiration for the message from other cities that have discovered ways to improve how they handle mental-health emergencies. He partnered with several organizations that have led crisis intervention efforts, such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness, better known as NAMI. Everyone involved hopes the signs will get across to someone who needs support the moment they need it. (KIIITV.com)
  2. A 14-year-old boy has been arrested by the Ingleside Police Department in connection with a bomb threat made on Friday to Ingleside High School. After writing "Imma bomb Ingleside High School today, Friday, May 19" on Snapchat, the teenager was charged with making a terroristic threat. Although they didn't think the threat was credible, according to school officials on Friday, they still searched the building as a precaution. A terrorist threat is a third-degree felony and if convicted, the boy could face two to 10 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000. (KIIITV.com)
  3. A new phone scam that some Nueces County citizens are reporting has the Nueces County Sheriff's Department issuing a warning to the public. The scammer is calling residents, claiming to be a sheriff's deputy, and accusing victims of failing to appear at Judge Connie Scott's Commissioners Court. Sheriff J.C. Hooper states that rather than contacting you by phone, someone from the department would show up at your residence. (KRIS 6 News Corpus Christi)
