Here are the top three stories today in Corpus Christi:
- Monday, Jun. 5, was the beginning of the Coastal Bend Blood Center's second annual Summer Blood Drive. Mobile blood centers will be present throughout the area, and blood center officials are optimistic that there will be a good turnout this year. "It is summertime, that is a difficult time for the blood center just because high school students account for 30 percent of our blood supply. They're obviously out of school, this helps us greatly," Ashley Ramirez, who is with the blood center, said. (KIIITV.com)
- With the Ulvade school shooting still close in memory, the administration of the Tuloso-Midway Independent School District (TMISD) is taking steps to increase security headed into the next school year. New policies instituted by TMISD for the next school year include a mandate for clear backpacks in high schools, as well as the introduction of limited entrance points and metal detectors in middle schools, and vape detectors in middle and high school bathrooms. - The Corpus Christi area Glenoak Therapeutic Riding Center is offering a new way to help locals — and visitors — keep their minds and bodies active. Equine therapy — the practice of horse-riding for physical and mental health — has been able to help 34-year-old Chris Kemp, who suffers from cerebral palsy, as well as others. "It's just one of the things he looks forward to every week," said Beverly Hill, Kemp's mother. (KIIITV.com)
