Here are the top three stories in Corpus Christi today:

  1. Family has identified 15-year-old Eriya Ruiz as the teen who was found with severe trauma outside of her house on Pennine Drive on Friday, Jun. 2. Ruiz later died at the hospital from her injuries. According to Corpus Christi Police Department Public Information Sr. Ofc. Antonio Contreras, a boy has been arrested and charged with murder. Ruiz's family made a GoFundMe page to help with hospital payments and funeral expenses. (KIIITV.com)
  2. On Friday night, Jun. 2, 20-year-old Jose Garcia of Corpus Christi was arrested in connection to the 2020 shooting death of his girlfriend, 14-year-old Beatrice Nieto. The U.S. Marshals Service has been looking for Garcia since he broke his ankle monitor while out on bond in 2021. Last month, police offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to Garcia's arrest, as he was believed to be in the Corpus Christi area. (Caller Times)
  3. Leona Lane, titled "The First Lady of Corpus Christi," recently spoke about her rough past and the art of drag. Leona has been doing drag for 50 years and said, "back in the 70s, being a drag queen was not easy. I’ve been stabbed twice and beaten with a bat just because I’m gay." Leona said the title shows her respect for helping pave the way for the younger generation of drag queens. Leona is performing at the Hidden Door bar for the rest of the month on Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. (KRIS 6 News Corpus Christi)
