Here are the top three stories in Corpus Christi today:

  1. Paul Kane Maldonado, 15, has been selling bottled water at the corner of Port Avenue and Arlington Drive to raise money to take his girlfriend on a date. After his mom posted a photo of him on the corner holding a sign, captioned "selling water to take my shorty on a date," the Corpus Christi student has become a social media sensation. Locals have banded together to make job offers to Maldonado, give him a free haircut, and even matching pairs of Crocs for him and his girlfriend. (KZTV 10 Corpus Christi)
  2. Local institution Nueces Brewing Company, in partnership with the Texas Association of Black Personnel for Higher Education (TABPHE), is hosting a free event at the Brewing Company to kick off Juneteenth celebrations in Corpus Christi. The Juneteenth kickoff will include free food and live music, and will be held Friday, Jun. 9, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. (KRIS 6 News Corpus Christi)
  3. A Corpus Christi woman who was dog-sitting a pit bull died on Monday, Jun. 5, after the dog attacked her. Rita Vasquez, 58, picked up the dog from her daughter on Wednesday of last week, returned to her home on the 6500 block of Lyons Street, and was attacked by the animal later that day. A call was made to emergency services around 11:54 a.m., resulting in Vasquez being hospitalized and the dog being impounded. The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office is still in the process of determining whether the severe injuries to Vasquez because of dog bites were the cause of her death. (KIIITV.com)
